64 Slice CT Machine

The most advance CT Machine in South-East Asia

Capable of doing advanced CT Angiogram

The 64 Slice CT Machine The most advance CT Machine in South-East Asia Capable of doing advanced CT Angiogram is now available in Apollo Hospitals Dhaka.

The scanner, which has four times as many detectors as a typical multi-detector CT scanner, combines unrivaled image quality with remarkable speed. It can produce detailed pictures of any organ in a few seconds and provide sharp, clear, three-dimensional images, including 3-D views of the blood vessels, in an instant.

A 40-slice scanner collects images covering 20 to 32 millimeters in a single pass and a tightly packed 64-slice device can cover about 40 millimeters at a pass, which takes 0.4 seconds.

At that rate, a 64-slice scanner can gather a high-resolution image of a heart, brain or a pair of lungs in about five seconds. A scan of the whole body, (in search of a blood clot, for example, that has become a source of emboli) takes about 30 seconds.

The technology has been particularly exciting for studying the beating heart, providing the first clear non-invasive images of the heart and its major vessels. The scans can be timed to use only images gathered between contractions, so that the heart and its vessels can be seen without the blurring caused by motion.

CT Carotid Angiogram:

Other promising indications for multi-slice scanners include evaluation of plaque within the carotid arteries (5 to 8 seconds), searching for pulmonary emboli (5 seconds, less than an easy breath hold), coronary artery imaging (10 seconds, including distal segments and multiple arterial branches).

CT-Angiography - Know your Heart through a simple CT Scan

01. What is a Cardiac CT Scan?

Ans.

It is a scanning of your heart through latest 40 - 64 slice Computed Tomography (CT) Machine. This is done through rapid CT X-ray scanning to produce most detailed images of heart's arteries without surgery like catheter angiograms in which a long catheter is to be inserted in your arteries.

02. How is CT Cardiac Angiogram done?

Ans.

Step 1: You are given an intravenous injection of a contrast dye to highlight the blood vessels and X-ray creates images of heart in slices. The images are studied on a computer and if there are blocks in your arteries (calcium and fat filled plaques) these can be identified.

Step 2: A table slides the patient into the scanner as the X-ray tube circles the body for about 5 to 8 sec.

Step 3: The X-rays are recorded by the detector array. Each complete loop creates a spiral slice of the heart, composed of 40 - 64 slices.

Step 4: The scanner's computer reconstructs the spiral slices into hundreds of 2ŹD images.

Step 5: A 3-D composite is created processing the slices that can show the pumping action of the heart.

03. What are the limitations?

Ans.
As fat can distort X-ray and beams cannot penetrate metal or calcium, CT Angiogram has limitations in those who are very obese. People with irregular heart beat are not the best candidates for CT Cardiac Angiogram.

04. How much time does the procedure takes?

Ans.
Total duration of procedure is not more than 45 - 60 minutes and you are free to do anything after the procedure unlike for catheter angiogram where you need to stay in hospital for 1-2 days.

05. Is the CT Cardiac Angiogram facility available in Bangladesh?

Ans.
Yes, it is only available at Apollo Hospital Dhaka. It is a simple procedure and takes only 45 minutes to confirm if you have arterial block or not to get a heart attack. If you have a block you need further treatment and if you don't have a block - well just enjoy Life!!
