All our patients come to us with immense hope and
belief that we would help them get completely cured.
Every day we strive hard to live up to their faith.
We share their pain, hope and joy as they make their
journey from illness to total cure. And their
stories of happiness are ours too.
At Apollo Hospitals Dhaka, we regularly organize
Patient Forum,
which is a program to provide platform for patients
to talk about their experiences and provide
recommendations for the hospital and its staff. Here
are some experiences shared by our patients.

Patient Forum: Kidney & Urology Centre
On February 15, 2010 an exciting,
emotional and joyful Patient forum
was held with patients of Kidney &
Urology Centre. Like always, our
Consultants and their secretaries
initially short listed the patients
and contacted/called them, after
which we sent invitation letters to
these patients, and had regular
follow-ups to ensure their presence
in the program.

Patients started arriving for the Patient
Forum from 2 pm onwards on that day and
attended Kidney & Urology Centre OPD where
they had their complementary physical
examination and follow-up done, from where
they attended the auditorium. Some of the
invited patients were accompanied with
their family members.
We started the program in the auditorium
with welcome speech from our CEO and DMS,
who delighted the audience with their
Bangla words of welcome. Dr. K.M. Sahu and
Dr. Wahed Zaman then spoke to welcome
their patients and to invite them to talk
to the present audience about their
experiences with Apollo along with their
suggestions and recommendations for
further improvement in our services.
Patients came not only from different
parts of Dhaka but also from all over the
country; from Chittagong, Noakhali,
Hobigonj, Tangail, Gazipur, Jamalpur and
Narayangonj. We had six patients who have
had Renal Transplant in our hospital, who
came with their donors. We had patients
who availed services from our dialysis
centre and are leading normal life today.
We also had patients who have had their
surgeries done in our Urology Centre, like
patients who have had Radical nephrectomy,
partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, and TURP.
Their individual experiences and stories
before they had treatment, their plight
while they kept on searching the right
treatment, their interaction with the
Consultants and subsequent reliance on
them as the ones who gave them their life
back, were amazingly heart-wrenching!
Mrs. Sreela Barua from Chittagong, who has
had renal transplant, was all praise of
our Consultants and also her husband who
donated her kidney. The loving couple
stood there on the dais as a testimony of
rebirth having their life back to normal
with the Kidney Transplant done in our KTU.
Mr. Ismail Hossain Bulbul’s experience of
moving from renowned hospitals in Bangkok
to Singapore in search of the right
diagnosis and then doing his Kidney
Transplant in AHD was echoed with similar
satisfaction shared by Mr. Nurul Islam,
who had his passport and visa ready to go
to India then deciding to do the operation
in AHD. The team effort between Medical
Care and Management People of the hospital
came out in full force from the
experiences shared by the patients who
were persuaded and convinced to do their
Kidney Transplant in AHD.
Baby Tayeba and Baby Sabila came from two
different parts of the country, Hobiganj
and Narayanganj, but their mothers shared
the same joy and gratitude when they broke
down with pent-up emotions describing
their daughters’ renewed life status after
they have had Radical Nephrectomy in
Apollo Hospitals Dhaka. The same
confidence was shared by Mr. Hefaz Uddin,
who told the audience the story of his
wife Mrs. Lutfun Nesa’s recovery after she
has had the same operation in our Urology
Centre; their profuse gratitude to the
Consultant Dr. Wahed Zaman and the
hospital for the support and care they
received at their time of stay in the
hospital and also afterwards in their
follow-up care were elaborate and evident
in the speech.
Mr. M.R.A. Taha, an elderly delighted
patient of our Nephrology Centre who owns
a clinic in Uttara, was telling the
audience why he recommends all his friends
and relatives to come to Apollo Hospitals
Dhaka; he and Mr. Tawhidul Alam, a young
fellow, were both all-praise for Dr. Sahu
and his team in Dialysis Centre, and their
words, “ami ekhon bhalo achi, khub bhalo”
were echoed by all others who are
beneficiaries of our Nephrology
Department’s commendable service.
Mr. Devdas Mishra who has had TURP in our
hospital two years back, pointed out some
lacking in nursing and cleanliness that he
found during his stay in AHD, to which it
was assured to the audience that we do
give it our best try to take care of the
feedback we receive from our patients, on
a priority basis.
Dr. K.M. Sahu assured all present about
the uniqueness of success, team work, and
cost advantage we provide for Kidney
Transplant compared to abroad; he also
reiterated the sincere support extended
even to those who have had kidney
transplant abroad and are now in follow-up
care in AHD. Dr. Wahed Zaman also endorsed
Dr. Sahu, mentioning the integrated
service we provide in our Kidney & Urology
Centre under one roof, highlighting the
family support and proper follow-up which
they won’t get in AHD price in a hospital
abroad.
The session was concluded with vote of
thanks from our CEO and DMS; patients were
then given gifts while they took photos
with the Consultants. They were served
with take-away food packets in the end.
In totality, like previous patient forums,
Kidney & Urology Centre Patient Forum on
Feb 15, 2010, the first patient forum of
this year, brought forward the dedication
and commitment of our Consultants for our
patients and how it is increasingly
spreading message to others in the
community to strengthen the present and
future patient pool. Appreciation from the
patients for organizing such a forum made
the success of the program more enjoyable
for us. We’ll send the photos and video of
the program to the patients by courier as
memorabilia.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to
Consultants of Kidney & Urology Centre Dr.
Wahed Zaman and Dr. Krishna Mohan Sahu and
their team for helping us organize the
program and for making it successful with
their presence and active participation;
they have made all Apollo members feel so
proud of them in the program!
We shall continue arranging such ‘patient
forum’ with patients of other specialties
in the coming days, with cooperation,
assistance and encouragement from our
Consultants. |

phone calls from Consultants,
ensuring their presence in the
program. Patients started arriving
for Patient Forum from 2 pm onwards

physical examination and follow-up
done. Then everyone moved to the
auditorium. We started our program

We had patients who have had THR (total
hip replacement) for varied reasons like
ankylosing spondylitis, invasive bone TB,
and other degenerative diseases. Their
pre-surgery agony for finding the right
place for right solution came out in their
individual stories; their profuse
gratitude to the Consultant and the
hospital for the support and care they
received at their time of stay in the
hospital and also afterwards in their f/up
care.
When Mr. Murad Khan was describing how he
traveled across 3-4 different countries of
Europe for his treatment and doctors there
came up with the same suggestion that Dr.
Prashant Agrawal provided here, many
present in the audience echoed their
sentiment of matching their treatment
suggestions with hospitals abroad to come
to a firm decision to have surgery in
Apollo Dhaka Bone & Joint Centre. Mr.
Idris Ali’s emotions (with THR) touched
all when he was describing the father-son
relationship he has developed over years
with Dr. Nandkumar! Mrs. Shaheen Sultana
herself brought up the issue of complying
with certain rules and regulations after
THR, which she admitted she sometimes
doesn’t follow; to which Dr. Prashant
Agrawal briefed the audience about the
f/up advices again.
Mrs. Nargis Samad of Uttara has had right
TKR (total knee replacement) under Dr.
Nandkumar; while she was talking about her
experience, her husband Mr. Samad took
over to elaborate how he influenced his
wife for having TKR here in Apollo Dhaka
while she was all set to go to Singapore!
Mr. Samad even told the audience how he
considers himself to be fortunate enough
to have had his residence in Uttara
(nearer to Apollo) and he has already
briefed his family members to bring him
here should he face any problem at any
point of time.
We had cricket, football, tennis and
karate players among others who have had
ACL repairs under Dr. M Ali. When Ms Asma
Jahan Chy, a national level Karate player
was expressing her gratitude to Dr. Ali in
tears with specific mention of the warm
service of our nurses while she was
admitted, all present got very moved when
she sought blessings from the audience for
getting a medal in next SAAF games, the
present audience clapped their support for
her in unison. Mr. Sheikh Muztaba Ali
thanked his good fortune for being the
namesake of Dr. M Ali which he thought
brought him to his care!
We also had patients who survived sever
accident with multiple injury and
subsequent extensive repair and
reconstructive surgery, like Mr. Debu
Barua whose description of the fight for
his life, vividly illustrated the timely
support of Apollo medical and nursing
staff, he had all the way of his recovery!
Saiful Islam, a 12 year old boy, had bone
tumour of left humerous, was also present
in the patient forum. While Dr. Nandkumar
showed the patient’s free and complete
shoulder joint movement as he is totally
okay now, all present were amazed and awed
hearing his story and how he got cured
with removal of tumour and post-surgical
bone grafting!
We had patients of varied types like Mr.
Ramnath Dutta who has had spine surgery
under Dr. Prashant; we also invited
patients who are to have surgery in the
coming days in our Bone & Joint Centre, so
it acts as ‘confidence-building forum’ for
them, hearing first-hand experiences from
those who have already had surgeries here.
In totality, like previous patient forums,
Bone & Joint Centre Patient Forum on Dec
10 brought forward the dedication and
commitment of our Consultants for our
patients and how it is increasingly
spreading message to others in the
community to strengthen the present and
future patient pool. Appreciation from the
patients for organizing such a forum made
the success of the program sweeter for us.
Consultants of Bone & Joint Centre Dr.
Nandkumar Katakdhond, Dr. M Ali and Dr.
Prashant Agrawal with their presence and
active participation; made all of us at
Apollo feel so proud of them in the
program!
The voice of Mr. Tanvir Ahmed Rosi, a
patient who survived a major poly trauma
in our Bone & Joint Centre, who stood tall
in front of the audience and shouted,
“Apollo Rocks” continued to reverberate in
the auditorium long after all the guests
had left.
This is how all of us at Apollo would like
Apollo to be remembered by our patients! |

Patient Forum: Neonatology Department
|
The Patient Forum on October 31,2009
was for the VLBW (very low birth
weight) babies who were treated in
the Neonatology Department under
care and supervision of Senior
Consultant Dr. Abu Iqbal. The
emotional and active participation
of invited parents and their babies
made the program colourful, joyous
and festive. A father broke down
weeping, telling the audience how he
had sound sleep at night at his home
and he came to the hospital in the
morning to hear of the doctors
passing sleepless night in Neonatal
ICU with his baby. A crying mother
expressing her gratitude for the
doctors always answering her queries
in regular and odd hours, in person
and in phone, doctors never showing
any irritation or annoyance unlike
the doctors she experienced outside
Apollo! The whole audience applauded
when one mother asked all to pray
for her daughter having 700 gm birth
weight, who’s getting admitted in
school this month. Mothers who never
thought their babies would live to
see this day were all out there,
pouring their heart out, expressing
their gratitude for Apollo and its
Consultants. |

of the present guardians became
highly emotional shedding their
tears of gratitude when they were
sharing their helpless situation
with their babies. They said they
were wandering all around with no
guidance and help and when they
eventually got the desired treatment
and support from Dr. Attawar Sandeep,
