On December 30th 2017, Nayan Mollah (26M) was admitted to Apollo Hospitals Dhaka with complaints of seizure, dysphasia and right hemiparesis. MRI scans of brain revealed an enhancing tumour just in front of the left motor area with peritumoral edema. After a rigorous consultation session with doctors and family, Mr. Molla opted for an awake craniotomy. The very next day, a highly skilled team of specialists, doctors, nurses and technicians headed by Dr. Md. Aliuzzaman Joarder, Neurosurgery Consultant and Neuroanaesthetist Dr. Zahid Hossain from Apollo Hospitals Dhaka carried out first awake brain tumour removal surgery – a procedure in which the patient remains wide awake throughout the operation. Patient talks and moves his limbs during surgery according to doctor’s advice. Now, Mr. Mollah lives his life without any neurological problem. On this regard an event “Meet the Press” was organized by Apollo Hospitals Dhaka where Dr. Ratnadeep Chaskar; Chief Operating Officer and Dr. Arif Mahmud; Head of Medical Service, doctors and senior management of Apollo Hospitals Dhaka were present.
