To provide services to patients who present to the Accident & Emergency Department with chest pain and diagnostic dilemma for a critical event such as Acute Coronary Syndrome.
The patient presenting in Emergency with acute chest pain will be initially assessed by the Emergency Physician, who will assess
- Existence of Co-morbid conditions requiring admission
- Existence of ischemic changes on ECG
- Known ischemic heart disease or pain highly suggestive to cardiac in origin
- Suspected or proven alternative diagnosis
- Patient choice for admission to inpatient area
Two beds will be marked in the Accident & Emergency Department for chest pain observation.
The duration of patient stay will be 6 hours and during this time they will be investigated according to protocols which will include intensive ECG monitoring and Cardiac Enzyme Testing |
